Buddha Dordenma
Buddha Dordenma, located in the mountains of Thimphu, Bhutan, is an awe-inspiring statue that stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity. Completed in 2015, this colossal statue of Shakyamuni Buddha is one of the largest in the world, standing at a height of 54 meters (177 feet).
Made of bronze and gilded in gold, Buddha Dordenma houses over 100,000 smaller Buddha statues inside its body, each meticulously crafted. The statue sits atop a large meditation hall, surrounded by serene gardens and panoramic views of the Thimphu valley.
Commissioned to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the fourth king of Bhutan, the statue emanates a sense of calm and spiritual solace. It has become a significant pilgrimage site and a major attraction for visitors, embodying Bhutan’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
